Al-Hayy

The Living, The Ever-Living, The Perfectly Alive, The Eternal, His existence having neither beginning nor end. God is the only One Who is Eternal and shall remain forever. He is the source of life in all that is alive.

That which is alive is cognizant and active. God is cognizant of all, and all actions are His.

God as the Absolute Living One, under whose perception, all perceived beings and things are arranged, so that nothing perceived escapes His knowledge.

Al-Hayy is the Living Purifier of life from the beginning without any beginning or ending. He is the Subsister forever from the world of pre-eternity, and the Ever-Living who does not die.

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham has explained that The Living – al-Hayy, is one of the special seven Names of God that explain Him. The remaining ninety two Names express His non-living qualities.

“In the Name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy.”

‘Allah, there is no god other than Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting … and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving. He is the Most High, the Sublime.’ (Quran 2:255)

‘None has the right to be worshipped, but He, the Ever-Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists.’ (Quran 3:2)

‘and all faces will be humbled before the Living, Ever Watchful One.’ (Quran 20:111)

‘And put your trust in the Living One Who dies not, and extol His Praise, and Sufficient is He as the All-Knower of the sins of His worshippers.” (Quran 25:58)

‘He is the Ever-Living; so invoke Him, making your worship pure for Him Alone.’ Quran (40:65)

And God knows best.
