Nightingale Qasida

By the Nefes Ensemble and members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

This track is a recording made in 2008 between the Nefes Ensemble, a group of musicians and chanters based in Melbourne, that specialize in Turkish Sufi music. Their instruments include the ney (reed flute), qanun (zither) and bendir (drum).

One of their memorable performances was in the production of Daniel with Victorian Opera, conducted by the well known Richard Gill.

This collaboration was with some members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, featuring the cello, created this unique fusion of Sufi music.
