Sufi Songs from Sarajevo

This Sufi Music is performed by the Ensemble Nesidu-l-Huda, from Sarajevo. They draw on compositions by the great Muslim mystical poets and perform these during ecstatic religious celebrations and ceremonies. Although the Sufis were harshly treated during the communist ruled era of the Balkans, they withdrew into private gatherings, keeping their tradition alive.

Sung in groups or individually, the Ensemble-l-Huda are only accompanied by a drum. They have performed at the annual Festival Imaginaire, in Montpelier, France.

This track is from their DVD album, ‘Sufi Songs from Sarajevo’.
