The Golden Chain

Bound for your Noble Presence . . .

Khwaja Muhammad Bahauddin Shah Naqshband (may God sanctify his innermost being), the seventeenth Shaykh in the Naqshbandi Golden Chain and at the same time, the eighth Khwaja of the ‘Khwajagan’ – the Masters of Wisdom of Central Asia, said the following:-

“One day, on my way from Bukhara to Nasaf, when I was going to see Khwaja Sayyid Amir Kulal, I happened to meet a man on horseback. I declined his pressing invitation to keep him company. When I reached my destination, Khwaja Amir Kulal said, ‘That was the venerable Khidr, why didn’t you accept his kind offer?’

‘I was bound for your noble presence,’ I replied, ‘and my association with you enables me to dispense with the company of Khidr.”
