The Golden Chain

Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Gilani

Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Gilani related the following:-

“A man came to Baghdad from Hamadan, called Yusef Hamadani. I heard he was the Qutb. He stayed at a Sufi Centre. When I heard about him, I went to the Centre, but did not find him. When I asked around, I was told he was in the cellar. I went down to him. He stood up when he saw me, then sat down close to me. He described my state of affairs and resolved my obstacles. Then he said to me, “Oh Abdul Qadir, address the people.” I said, “O my Master, I am a non-Arab person, how can I speak to the eloquent people of Baghdad?”

He said, “You have now mastered jurisprudence, grammar, language and Quranic exegesis. It is now time to speak. Sit on the chair and speak to the people, for I see a root that will grow into a large tree.”

Shaykh Khwaja Abu Yaqub Yusef al-Hamadani (may God sanctify his innermost being), the ninth Sheikh in the Naqshbandi Golden Chain and is also the first of the ‘Khwajagan’ – the Masters of Wisdom of Central Asia.

May God be pleased with both of these great Saints.
