Islamic Calligraphy

This interview with Dr. Bilal Badat provides a rare and fascinating insight into the tradition of Islamic calligraphy.

Dr. Badat is an art historian specialising in the history of Islamic calligraphy. He completed his masters in Islamic Art and Archaeology at Oxford University and wrote his doctorate on Ottoman calligraphy at the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts. He has studied for many years in Istanbul under the master calligrapher Efdaluddin Kilic, from whom he has received his Ijaza to teach calligraphy.
